Narcissus
Daffodil
(Narcissus) originated in a broad area from Europe and North Africa across to Western Asia. They have been in cultivation for hundreds of years. They have been extensively hybridized. Thus, all of the Daffodils sold as potted plants are hybrid cultivars,is a classical Latin name, from the Greek; perhaps as the origin suggests, in allusion to narcotic properties. It is not clear whether it was named after the youth Naricussus in mythology.
Growing and Maintenance Tips:
Light - Longevity can be extended by 1 to 2 days by keeping plants at light levels of 100 fc ( 1.1 klux), compared to 25 fc (270 lux). Temperature - Keep plants at 65°F (18°C). Plants will tolerate cooler temperatures, and lifespan may be extended if temperature is lowered. Recent results have demonstrated that plants held at 65°F ( I 8°C) lasted 4 to 5 days longer than those at 80°F (27°C). Location - Place plants near a window with cool temperatures and bright light. Irrigation - Keep plants uniformly moist. Grooming - Remove individual flowers as needed.
