Mini Rose

The rose is the flower of Aphrodite, the goddess of love, and it has been cherished since ancient times. The Romans used it as teh symbol for their feasts. The rose has a long history. The first known paintings of a rose are in frescoes painted about 1600 BC, in Crete. Countless bridges have been adorned with roses throught the ages, and although the Christian church looked upon the rose as a heathen symbol in the beginning, it later became accepted as the symbol for the gifts of the Holy Spirit. They have colors from white and pale to pink, to glowing wellow, orange, red, lavender and purple.

The plants are often rather tender, but are excellent choices for potted plants or for planing out in balcony or window boxes sheltered from the wind. They are gaining popularity for use in miniature bouquets and table decorations. When buying roses in bud it is important that the bud be well-developed. Choose roses which are just starting to uncurl at the top.
