By all accounts, one of the finest gardenias produced is by Kurt Weiss Greenhouses, Inc. Grown at our Florida location for optimum foliage and bud development, it is brought north for the final touch. The northern climate ensures lush green foliage, woody stems and most importantly, stable flower development and shelf life. |
Additional:
The Gardenia has inspired many wonderful perfumes and magnificent works of art, but none of these can compare to the real beauty of a living gardenia. The gardenias glossy green leaves make it an attractive foliage plant even when it is not in bloom. With proper care, a living gardenia will continue to scent and enhance your home for years. Gardenias require full sunlight and frequent watering to maintain healthy foliage and continuing flower development. If any leaves show signs of yellowing, immediately increase the plants watering and humidity to prevent any buds from dropping. And though gardenias require bright light, avoid any intense direct sunlight during mid summer months which can burn the plant's foliage. You can keep you gardenia thriving for years. For best results, fertilize your gardenia every few weeks during the spring, summer and fall, and allow plant it's natural dormant period during the deep winter months. Gardenias grow naturally in acidic soil, so it's necessary to use Miracid® or ammonium sulfate fertilizer to maintain it's proper soil PH. (A mixture of two level teaspoons of ammonium sulfate per gallon of water is the perfect balance for fertilization.) If your gardenia out grows it's container, you can repot it into a larger drainable pot using lime free potting soil. You can purchase lime free soil and ammonium sulfate fertilizer from your local garden center. Enjoy your gardenia, and experience the natural beauty and fragrance that only a living gardenia can provide.
